We all know that Trump lies. Lies about everything…
Immigrants. Workers. Women. Muslims.
He calls putting immigrant kids in cages necessary.
His top economic advisor says “deadbeat waitresses” – not big banks – were responsible for the recession.
He says Honduran refugees are Middle Eastern terrorists.
And, the television talking heads tell us that Trump’s lies are a threat to our democracy.
But there’s actually bigger lies that are the real threat to democracy…it’s the lies we tell ourselves…the lies we tell each other.
The truth is too many of us don’t vote.
We make excuses. We pretend to forget. We convince ourselves that our vote won’t matter. Those are the dangerous lies.
As we call voters, text them, knock on their doors…we have to tell them the truth…we know you don’t vote and we don’t like it.
That truth is tough and harsh and impolite.
If you don’t vote…no matter what you say about it…you are supporting Trump.
You are proving that you don’t matter.
That’s the truth. That’s what people need to hear, deal with, and act on.
